I was so excited to open my Holly Springs water bill this month. Not to be able to write another check, but to find out that Holly Springs was voted as the “Best Place to Raise Kids in North Carolina”!! Are you kidding me, this is awesome. I get to live in a town that is not only voted the best place to live, but we just got access to 540 and we are getting a Target, among many other shops and restaurants in the very near future. Can life get any better? Not for this lady!!
Get the Facts: Holly Springs
This conclusion was made by Bloomberg Businessweek and Bloomberg Rankings, which evaluated more than 3,200 places nationwide with populations from 5,000 to 50,000. They looked at such metrics as public school performance, safety, housing costs, commute time, poverty, adults’ educational attainment, share of households with children, and diversity. To gauge the local job market, they also weighed median income and unemployment. The data comes from GreatSchools.org, the FBI, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The list excludes places where the median family income exceeds $115,866, the lower limit for the wealthiest 20 percent of U.S. families.

What’s so special about Holly Springs
A suburb in North Carolina’s Research Triangle, Holly Springs is near the area’s best academic institutions but still maintains a slightly slower pace of life. Drug maker Novartis (NVS) manufactures vaccines in town, while the Arts Council is planning its first Community Arts Festival for Holly Springs families in 2013.
Town Manager Carl Dean said the Town invests a lot providing amenities that create quality of life for residents. Investments include police officers in schools. “This [honor] demonstrates the return on those investments,” he said.
Jenny Mizelle, the Town’s Economic Development director, said such accolades could benefit the community by helping the Town market itself to businesses looking to relocate.
“For decision-makers at the corporate level, it reinforces having Holly Springs on the short list of possible locations,” she said.
